Where could we get plans for the Mediterranean straw bale home? Also, what type of foundation is required?
Thanks
All plans are available through Dream Green Homes: http://www.dreamgreenhomes.com/materials/strawbale.htm
Not all plans have been added yet. Just let us know if what you want isn’t shown.
I modify the wall section drawing to reflect what you need at no extra cost.
hi,
am in the process of applying for a USDA loan.
wondering how much it would cost to build the Mediterranean
home? plus, where do you build? do you have contractors in the NM area?
love this plan and have visualized a straw bale home for years.
thanks for any info you can give me.

There’s a whole network of strawbale contractors, and NM is the center of much activity. Google The Last Straw journal and then search their contractor listings. This plan can be upgraded to meet NM code and so it should be accepted by USDA with an engineer’s stamp.

Owen, I wonder if straw bale homes would pass in the interior of BC, Canada?
I do know of one straw bale home here but it’s not in the city thus maybe not having to pass certain codes.
Great plans… maybe one day I’ll try building with straw.

Strawbale is hugely popular in Canada. The government even funded a study of straw-bale construction: http://www.cmhc-schl.gc.ca/publications/en/rh-pr/tech/00-103-E.htm I’m also certain you would not have a problem getting one of these permitted in Canada.
Mediterranean is not listed on the web site. http://www.dreamgreenhomes.com/materials/strawbale.htm
I could use some type of break down as to the materials and est cost if possible.
The green builders in Iowa are big on concrete so perhaps this model can be modified or something. I know the community as a solar farm and windmill which can be connected to the house I want to build which will reduce costs.
Thanks.
Dream Green Homes only shows the most popular plans on their site. However, you can order any of my plans by placing a request. Send the owner Kelly Hart an email.
Costs vary considerably from region to region and so it’s up to the homeowner to figure out the costs based on local prices.
Construction costs will be considerably higher in areas with building codes. Look for rural areas with few or no codes if possible.
